Why do people on the internet trot out the line "respect must be earned" as if that's self-evidently true? It isn't.

@PhilosophyExp Imagine "respect" as a sliding scale from 1 to -1. My default position would be zero, and constantly shifts with interaction

@blondgecko Neutral wouldn't privilege good faith over bad faith. It would be suspicion.
