@PhilosophyExp Do you mean that it also works as a set of moral commitments or intentions for some folks?

@DJGrothe Well, it does those things. But what I meant is that religion can be constitutive of identity, so if you're... 1/2 -
@PhilosophyExp Constitutive of identity in ways atheism can't be but humanism can be? -
@DJGrothe Well, you'd think so.... but I'm not so sure (it depends exactly how one defines atheism, of course).

@PhilosophyExp What about other kinds of identity? Political identity (is there such a thing?), being a United fan,etc. Morally significant? -
@NotungSchwert Yes, morally significant. As a Man City fan, it would have been wrong if I'd laughed at you 93:20 through the QPR game. ;) -
@PhilosophyExp I've wiped that game from my mind, so have no idea what you're talking about ;) -
@NotungSchwert Very wise! :(Aguueeeerrrroooooo!) ;)

@PhilosophyExp Are you saying there's moral compulsion 2 relig ident or that theres moral consideration in attacking the ident of religious? -
@Questingrat The 2nd. It's morally significant that if you attack religious beliefs you will be attacking something fundamental to identity. -
@PhilosophyExp Interesting, what if ident was deemed parasitic and/or harmful to society, would there then be a moral component TO attack? -
@Questingrat Good question, but too complex for Twitter. Very brief ans: Yes, but no retribution, & endeavor to do as little harm as poss. -
@PhilosophyExp Excellent answer for twitter!
