I think it's entirely normal for philosophy academics to engage with the wider public as academics. I launched a philosophy magazine back in the 1990s predicated on exactly that fact.

This is daft. Do you really think that people's public profiles can't be increased by a "noisy" push back? I'd say that's what happened with Jordon Peterson, for example, who would have remained a hardly known mediocrity without it.
