Are you sure you've got the right bit (with the thin sections to allow it to be snapped out) under the kidney-shaped hole? If so, try hammering at it with the blunt end of the knife. Sometimes the "thin" bits of plastic are still pretty thick.
I'm not sure about anything anymore!
I've beaten the bit under the kidney-shaped hole to within an inch of its life, but it's staying put.
I'm blaming a manufacturing fault!

Lots of spices etc come with lids like that, and I'm used to having to bash them with the blunt end of a knife, and them not snapping cleanly. If you can actually see the impressed lines where the plastic should be thin enough to break and it's not breaking, try a chisel!
