We've asked them this a million times as well. Because the logical endpoint of this argument is that its women's fault for being raped because they did not identify as not-women. Except as you say, it's bullshit. Because - who knew? - patriarchal gender operates on SEXED bodies
It's hopeless. There's a PhD thesis to be written on how we got to this point. It has something to do with the fact that American progressives can't throw off their neoliberal inheritance.

This never fails to surprise me. How can one hold a materialist view of the world and yet hold an idealist view of gender?? It makes no sense at all. Yet many otherwise intelligent Marxists have gone down this path.
