It's bonkers. If you cash out their position it's going to turn out they think you can identify out of oppression.
If gender is a free for all, just a matter of how you identify, then there's no systemic sex-based oppression.

We've asked them this a million times as well. Because the logical endpoint of this argument is that its women's fault for being raped because they did not identify as not-women. Except as you say, it's bullshit. Because - who knew? - patriarchal gender operates on SEXED bodies
