It's possible there's something going on there, which I don't know enough to understand, to do with Brentano's concept of intentionality, which posits a gap between consciousness & its objects, but leaves consciousness itself a negation. H. might be negating the negation.
Or that could be complete bollox. Hard to say, really, without spending way more time than I'd ever be willing to spend trying to get to grips with the terrain.
