In 1969, Tony Cliff, leader of the International Socialists (which became the SWP) started worrying the party was too high falutin & middle class, so he ordered its student activists to get jobs in factories.
Some of them did!

I'm currently exploring the history of the British far Left. So far it's a tragi-comedy.

It might be for you but without those 1000s of activists lots of strikes, demos and campaigns would never have happened, we wouldn’t have defeated the Nazis and things would be generally even worse than they are now

And as for defeating the Nazis, this is how the Communist of Great Britain greeted the outbreak of the 2nd World War: https://www.marxists.org/archive/dutt/1939/11/01.htm …

Well, I wasn't talking about the 1970s onwards... That's recent history for me. I was involved in Anti-Nazi league events, CND events, Animal Liberation stuff (to my shame), etc. Some pics here:https://goo.gl/photos/LBKd9HKnbxVkggPm9 …

No, that's not right. Check back my tweets from yesterday. It's the CP, WW2 & post-war (1956, etc). I'm not lying! :) I was just reminded of the Cliff thing, that's all.

Mate I’m not in your tweets 24 hours a day I was referring directly to the Cliff tweet hence the direct response to it

Yes, I know. But actually you responded to my tragi-comedy tweet, which was a reference to my recent reading, etc., which literally hasn't touched upon the 1970s. It was precisely about "class against class", WW2, support for Stalin, internecine warfare (Trots included), etc.
