That's a great point, Jeremy. On those grounds, alone, all sorts of political scientists, philosophers and sociologists ought to be interested in what is going on.

I know your name. SWP? I'm actually quite surprised there isn't more push back against this stuff from socialists/Marxists, etc., because all this identity stuff doesn't sit easily with a class based structural politics.
-
As a socialist so am I. With the exception of a few left wing organisations and publications inc. the Morning Star, the left have been falling over themselves to throw women under the bus on this issue. So called Marxists have embraced ‘gender identity’ over women as a sex class.
-
I think part of the problem is that Marxism is just undertheorized when it comes to understanding the position of women in society. The whole Engels/private property, etc., thing just isn't convincing.
-
I think the Marxist position as regards women’s oppression being integrally linked to capitalism, class & our (perceived) reproductive value as a sex class is very clear but certain lefty men perform mental gymnastics to disregard this when it comes to gender identity dogma.
-
Well, Twitter's not the place for the conversation, but I have sympathy with McKinnon's criticism of the Marxist view in "Towards a Feminist Theory of the State" (chapter 2, maybe?). But I agree with you about the mental gymnastics. Gender identity dogma isn't compatible.

The usual avenues of engagement - all political parties, individual MPs such as
@EdwardJDavey and Maria Miller, and powerful lobbying organisations like Stonewall - have dismissed women's concerns as illegitimate. Women have had no choice but to organise at grassroots level. .Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

It does seem to be at least easing its way to the neck of the bottle. One last push and just maybe the misogynistic insanity will crawl back under its rock. Not long now...

I hope we can count on your support, Jeremy? Woman are experiencing a form of gaslighting on an unprecedented scale.

Why the "obviously"? It would be good to see your argument. (obviously I agree with you but seem to have swerved the difficult bit)

And yet political parties still refuse to engage.
