Oh yes, and the way he treated women, in particular, was dreadful. (Nearly as bad as the way Bertrand Russell treated the women who loved him.)

Nietzsche is an interesting example of a philosopher where the misogyny in his writings seems to be belied by his respectful behaviour towards women in his life (from the accounts I've read). Think part of his problem was the common one of saying 'woman' when speaking of women.
