The claim "intent isn't magic" is actually annoyingly trite. It's not magic, of course, but it certainly counts in any kind of proper assessment of a person's actions. Here's an example.

It’s good enough for the purpose of the example. Or the unintended consequence could have been employers becoming reluctant to hire women, which would fit the ethical story even better and might be easier to explain economics-wise.
