Then what, a General Election. Labour win, but no overall majority, & big resurgence of populist right wing? Tories might do better than expected if a hard Brexiter is charge. But they schism anyway? Is that how it all plays out?

Okay, so I don't follow UK politics all that carefully. But if May's Brexit thing fails, it means a political realignment doesn't it? Tories implode. Labour lose voters to a new Brexit party, and also voters to a party committed to remaining.
