The argument really isn't that convoluted (even if you think it doesn't work). The point is the argument doesn't depend on the non-personhood of the fetus to work (if it works).

It’s always bizarre to me, to hear people talk about pregnancy as though a fetus is “using” a body. That’s so thoroughly not an apt description. Pregnancy is a life function. There’s also nothing else like it. Our analogizing language tends to do violence to the reality of it
