Conundrum: apparently bright and educated people can fail to see that pursuing corporate profit in pharma directly links to actions designed to produce effective and safe drugs that meet unmet needs and will be purchased to generate profits. 1/
Is profit motive compatible with the individuation of disease conditions where drug cocktails have to be tailored to particular genetic configurations? There are certainly people working in cancer research who think that isn't at all clear.

To the extent that therapeutics goes in this direction, I suspect profit generating business models will follow, unless prevented by regulatory failure.
