Though, actually, if you're a Marxist you could fairly coherently argue that liberal-democratic politics are an opiate (a safety valve that distracts from genuine socialist praxis).

Almost anything you can think of has a political relevance to it, or can be viewed through a political lens. It's no more religious than saying everything is made of matter or energy.
