All of these things might make enthusiastic consent problematic. None of them rule out the possibility of informed consent. It doesn't matter how "woke", or how American, you are - you don't get to tell people they have to be enthusiastic about the things to which they consent.

Interesting, the notion of enthusiastic consent seems to reflect certain attitudes towards sex - those associated with sex positivity, say. Making enthusiastic consent a requirement could then be seen as treating those attitudes as not just normative but morally normative.

I agree with you on all this.People trying to dictate my behaviour in bed is creepy. Also paternalistic.Stop trying to protect me from myself.I'll have sex with whatever degree of enthusiasm I choose. Intentions are good but they're too entrenched in their partic perspective.

I think it was originally slightly stronger than that. More that if somebody has said yes, but reluctantly, and they're just lying there not responding, etc., then stop - you haven't really got consent. True, obviously. But it's morphed into something else now.
