All of these things might make enthusiastic consent problematic. None of them rule out the possibility of informed consent. It doesn't matter how "woke", or how American, you are - you don't get to tell people they have to be enthusiastic about the things to which they consent.

Interesting, the notion of enthusiastic consent seems to reflect certain attitudes towards sex - those associated with sex positivity, say. Making enthusiastic consent a requirement could then be seen as treating those attitudes as not just normative but morally normative.

Yes, & one interesting thing here is that "sex positivity" also tends to be associated with the "sex work is work" idea. So the question arises - do sex workers have to be enthusiastic about their sexual encounters for them to be consenting?
