That’s not the key difference. There are protected categories and there’s everything else. Religious and political beliefs are in the same spot on the choice-identity spectrum, yet the former are protected and the latter are not.
Does that mean you could refuse to bake a cake for somebody on the grounds that they had participated in a Pride parade, but not because they were gay? (Curious about how the law works in the States.)
