    Well, surely this could be easily explained if black income was much, much lower than white income in the 1940s & 1950s, and then things got a bit better.     Black poverty rate fell by 40% between 1940-1950, and black income grew at a rate higher than white income. Blacks did better during the era of Jim Crowe than we are doing now after two terms of a black president, plus 10,000+ elected black politicians. How?
