Scott Atlas said something similar back in July of 2020, namely that new coronavirus cases should not be the focus -- it should be hospitalizations, deaths.

But like....relative to where we were a year ago, aren't few people dying? atleast much fewer than before?

The problem is that number is rising. Hospitalizations and deaths are on an upward trend. It was much less. But we are approaching 7 day averages comparable to the first wave of deaths. We are above last August's deaths with winter coming up.
