Her role in the trenches on the Eastern Front was machine-gunner. This is an extremely dangerous job, as machine-gun nests are often fixed defensive positions, so are prime targets for attack.

Vyacheslav, the Tank's commander has a thousand-yard stare. He told me that Russian commanders send their recently mobilised conscripts and enlisted prisoners in waves, often to their deaths, to be withered down by cannon and machine-gun fire.

Viktor is the driver of this Soviet-era Tank. He says that, at the beginning of the war, they were fighting tank-to-tank battles, but now after so many armoured vehicles have been lost by both sides, it's mostly infantry and drone-directed artillery.
