My take on what the NY Times' gets factually wrong, where it actually has the upper hand on its critics, and the debated territory in between.

Far from encouraging actual diversity, this policy has morphed into a de facto loyalty pledge to the vacuous ideological echo chamber of critical theory.

Nancy MacLean provides another reminder that the academic history profession is mired in an epistemic system of conspiracy theorizing.

So whatever you may think of the alliance, it's historically accurate to note that this small group of libertarians actually sided with the Black Panthers during the events the LP's original tweet mentioned. They were one of very few groups that did so.

Still completely wrong. There were 11 states in the Confederacy. Each state has two senators. Virginia has two Democratic senators and Alabama has one. That’s 19 Republicans, out of a total of 51 who voted against witnesses (and 53 Republicans in total).

There's actually a long, if complicated, history of libertarian radicals allying with the Black Panthers dating back to the 60s. But Gannon sees the world through a heavy ideological lens that he neither admits nor evinces awareness of, hence this:

There were only 11 confederate states, giving them a total of 22 senators. Furthermore, 3 of those senators are Democrats and voted for testimony. So this is embarrassingly inaccurate.

The author of that piece is remarkably unaware that his own ideological disposition is substantially stronger than any of the historians he criticizes or dismisses.

One of the many reasons why Matthew Desmond's essay should be retracted by the is its widespread misuse and misrepresentation of sources. That even includes sources in the New History of Capitalism literature, as the following passage illustrates:
