  4. The deficit has exploded to almost $800 billion. By holding all federal expenditures — aside from social security — at their current level for 6 years, the deficit would be eliminated. Let’s get things done.

  5. I’m just trying to put something on the table here to say look, if you want to cut this deficit down, here’s an approach to doing it. It’s not different from what families and businesses have to do. And I already have the experience doing it as governor here in Tennessee.

  6. This race is about Tennessee, not Washington’s political games. As governor you trusted me to put Tennessee first, creating jobs, balancing the budget, and improving education. That’s what senators ought to do. I’m applying for the job.

  7. Washington is full of special interest money, corrupting Congress to the point where it has little connection with the realities back here in TN. My campaign is trying to break through the noise & actually talk about the issues that affect Tennesseans.

  14. To get the deficit under control, we may have to make some hard choices. Tennessee families do that day in and day out without closing up shop, skirting their responsibilities or pouting & sitting on their hands. The federal government can do the same.

  15. Politicians in Washington have failed to address the federal deficit, kicking the can down the road and burdening future generations. As governor, I worked with both parties to pass eight balanced budgets. I’m ready to do it again as Tennessee’s Senator.

  18. As governor I balanced eight consecutive budgets without establishing an income tax or raising the sales tax. In the 16 years my opponent has been in Washington, she has never passed a balanced budget.
