Strong rebound in Jan UK PMIs strengthens our view that the post-election rebound is real - but whether it is sustained is an open question & will hinge on future decisions made by hhlds & businesses. Also big volatility in PMIs has been a reason for caution before - in July 2016

Tesla is now worth more than HSBC. If it were listed in London it would be the second-biggest company by market value in the UK.

Got a wink out of Mary Berry - career achievement! She’s the queen of cakes, a serious businesswoman & no fool. Lemon drizzle cake works for all afternoon social engagements FYI & don’t serve her quiche

This is totally unreasonable of the EU. Demanding concessions in a UK version of a Canada deal that they did not demand of Canada. I wrote yesterday what was asked of Canada. (The first screenshot is from the Sunday Times piece, the second from below)

Boris has lowered the govt’s Brexit ambition so much that a deal this year is doable. And the Treasury will find the money to invest in ‘left behind’ regions. Brexit can be presented as a success. But don’t let anyone claim it is good economics

Important point by . We are now actually at the bottom of Barnier's staircase slide, with a standard FTA the aim. That has consequences for the UK (friction) but also the EU in terms of no alignment on level playing field & no ECJ. Fundamentally shifts dynamic of talks
