Imagine a game where we reverse the tired old LOD system where art actually becomes more detailed the further away you are from it. These iconic monuments would look beautiful from afar but when you actually get there you'll be disappointed. Just like a real life vacation.

I would also like to reverse the typical RTS "fog of war" so that you can only see things *outside* your immediate area.

There's a neat FPS game concept called Screen Cheat where 4-player split screen 'screen watching' is required to even see your opponents, as everyone is invisible.

Doesn’t this arguably happen already, especially in 2d and older 3d games. Some of those background images are ugly or blocky up close and our minds fill in the details to make them look better? Curves don’t exist everything is a straight line made of squares on screen.

...now you're just paraphrasing Jonathon Swift! That's pretty much right out of "Gulliver's travels" re the inhabitants of Lilliput and Brobdingnag...the former look beautiful because they're so tiny and the latter look hideous because they're so large.https://twitter.com/PeterMolydeux/status/998343429116571648 …

What about a game where you breathe in real life to breathe in game? If you swim underwater you will have to hold your breath or your character will drown.

Well it can still be made to look good from any distance it's just all about how the textures were made just look at Bethesda they aren't good with textures even that update to upgrade some textures was 40 gb but modders have done a similar job and done for much less space

They just don't know how to make textures the proper way so they don't take up much space even if they are very detailed there's lots of ways that I've been taught to make them look really good but still not take up so much space that most of the downloading is all the textures

But yeah I've seen mods for games like skyrim that make the textures of the mountains look much better for a small file size and from a distance they stand out and look beautiful it's a great experience like that but non modded skyrim I never really noticed said mountains

But whay I'm trying to say is its all about the Devs skill in making textures and alot of the Devs nowadays need to learn how to use these programs that allow to have good textures for a very small file size
