Imagine a fast paced FPS where enemies remain when killed. Problem is eventually there are too many characters on screen and the game stutters. So you have to be sure to find increasingly creative ways of making bodies vanish into thin air.

This could legit be an interesting idea! You could have lava and wood chippers and other ways of getting rid of bodies while still dealing with more waves

Are you talking about how to make the Garbage Collector become canon into a game or how to make "characters staying" and "characters not staying" (vanish into thin air) possible?

If it is #1, I'd say you can't make it a realistic game. You can play with rotting elements - rotting happens on dead people; accelerate rotting phenomenon.

Monsters could come by and eat the corpses, so if you don't loot the dead enemy player quick enough, you're left with whatever the creature didn't take with them. In addition, they could also be a threat to the players.
