Imagine a superhero game where every time you return to the game you're met with a memorial video showing everyone who died in the city since you last left. If you have the time/desire you can reverse time and save them.

Depending on how long this would take, you'd never actually move forward with the game. You'd always be playing in the past, especially if you had to do things like work, go to school, etc. And if the city were like Chicago, you'd definitely never move forward.
