You don't explain why "left-behind" towns should switch to the Conservatives and why cities that have prospered - eg Cardiff, Bristol - should swing further to Labour nor do you explain the M&S effect in Scotland.

In 1959 Labour gained seats in Lancashire and Scotland, despite losing to the Conservatives by a majority of 100, which had not benefitted from the "never had it so good" phenomenon that Macmillan had spoken about 2 years earlier.

Sutton Coldfield has lost its M&S clothing store, but has two M&S food stores. What does that mean for Andrew Mitchell?

Just looking at the result map, and it was clear to me the divide Tory / Labour was along the line cities vs rural/small town. I couldn't explain it. Very interesting
