We need to begin shaping a national strategy for next 2-3 years. We're working day/night to meet aspirational goal of 12-18 months for #COVID19 #vaccine, maybe stars will align? But reality is I think world record for a vaccine from start to finish is 4-5 years, usually 10-25 yrs

Given #COVID19 will likely wax/wane for next two years, I'm recommending @theNASEM convene to develop a roadmap for how America operates over this period, esp with respect to epidemiologic modeling, our health system, govt response, mental health impact, rolling out technologies

There's a misunderstanding out there that America just hunkers down for a year, then a #vaccine magically appears, and everyone goes out to have a nice picnic on the National Mall. It would be nice, it's not impossible, our lab working 24/7, but I think a low probability scenario

Can you point to any great article or summary on vaccine timelines? This would help philanthropists and policy makers figure out what the rate limiting steps are, what could ethically be done to speed up development (challenge trials as @mlipsitch and others suggest), etc.

The first thing to do is remove the president who failed to get this in control and then states he isnt responsible. Governors are having to step up and they are. But that is not what we were taught in school. Why have a pres states have to do everything themselves except insult

If President Trump gets the blame for the deaths in New York, New Jersey and Michigan, does he also get the credit for the lack of them in Wyoming, West Virginia and North Dakota?

Except they had been doing research on the Ebola virus since it first appeared in 1976... You can't claim only the aggressive phase of vaccine research that occurred in the last decade as the timeline...

No, John. “They” want to keep people from falling seriously ill and possibly dying. No immune system is invulnerable, no matter how hard you train and how good you eat. This is misinformation.
