New narrative this week says "we can't sacrifice entire US economy for some elderly/debilitated Americans"? Cruelty aside, I say flawed thinking: 1) 40-50% of hospitalized/ICU patients <54 yo, many 20-44 (see below); 2) Hospital systems already collapsinghttps://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6912e2.htm …

Dumb question maybe - but what do you see happening after lockdown (in the countries that have it)? With hardly anyone immune, how do you stop another outbreak? Restrict all travel to and from the country from certain places? I just can't get my head around how this works.

I guess there will be outbreaks after lockdown. At least we are buying time, time to manufacture more masks and ventilators and tests, build makeshift hospitals, run trials on treatments... not pretty 😞

18% of the GDP is health care. Continuing without "flattening the curve" would collapse the health care industry. No matter the outcome, I fear history will not judge us well.

Hi Dr Hotez. Should NYC be completely isolated? Lock down bridges, close airports, no one on streets or subway? To save rest of state/ country? Attack rate so high!

Someone should point this out to @DanPatrick and his cronies. They take cruelty to bold new heights.

Also, if only 10% of people tested are positive, does that mean that there are 10 times that who are symptomatic? (Otherwise, why are they being tested?) If so, they are also temporarily out of the workforce.

Everyone can now see that the scale of death, despair, suicide & societal collapse from an extended shut down is FAR, FAR greater than the actual effects of the Corona virus itself. There is a middle ground to be found. If not, we will cut off our nose to spite our face.

I did not hear that narrative which you have in “quotes” regarding “the elderly and debilitated”...... Who are you contributing this “quote” to ?
