There's a way to fight back. After advising students for >30 years, I've learned: WHERE you go to college, medical/graduate school/residency = the least important decision you will ever make. WHAT you choose to study, excel at = a very important decision.https://www.americamagazine.org/politics-society/2019/04/04/were-sacrificing-our-kids-mental-health-college-admission-industrial …

I struggled with this! I was told it was not as important as I *believed* it was but I had no evidence to the contrary! All the people I looked up to & admired had gone to excellent schools & had excellent training. Only NOW on the other side I can agree with you. This is a prob

My senior year was full of personal tragedy and I didn't apply to any 'competitive' schools. I felt like I let everyone down as a top student. Now, there are so many more important things for me to worry about and my education led me places I didn't see coming in hs anyway.

Great advice. I’ll be sending this to my college freshman tomorrow. Now how do I get my HS sophomore motivated toward college? 🤔

This isn't even a tiny bit true. Prestigious schools usually have WAY more resources for pre-meds, and are usually major research institutions.

There is a WIDE variation in the type of services and accommodations schools have. An illustrative example of this is how Notre Dame refused to meet a students epilepsy accommodations. He had to leave school. https://www.statnews.com/2018/10/25/epilepsy-discrimination-ada-undue-burden/ …
