What's ironic is that McCarthy's entire persona was wrapped up in exposing Russian sympathizers in the State Department and elsewhere in the federal government, while his media-manipulating protege Trump (through Roy Cohn) is consumed with bringing as many Russians in as he can.

I should add that the Republican Party is enthusiastically helping Trump extend Russian influence in American government at all levels.
