Elon Musk is giving $100 million to anyone who can find a way to pull carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere or oceans and sequester it durably and sustainably. Personally, I think $100 million is a bargain.

We need more people to participate so we can award this $100 million. Find out more:https://www.xprize.org/prizes/elonmusk

Plant a trillion trees Trees will extract it from the atmosphere. Also replant underwater plantain . If I’m correct they will do the same thing

Insufficient. We burned way too much fossil resources. And trees are growing too slow.

Pro Tip for all the "plant trees" people. Trees won't work fast enough for what we are facing. Also, captured CO2 can be used to synthesize methalox fuel for Starship, even further reducing its already comparatively modest carbon footprint.

Swapping $100mln Bitcoin to Nano would decrease CO2e emissions by 540,000 tons yearly - and be profitable. @elonmusk could do this with Tesla & SpaceX. Additionally, recognising Nano beats BTC means more investors switching, amplifying the CO2 savings.https://senatus.substack.com/p/swap-bitcoin-for-nano-save-the-planet …

Photosynthesis as a process is notoriously inefficient. One if its major enzymes - RuBISCO is one of the slowest enzymes in the living world. There is a lot of space to engineer a process that mimics photosynthesis but with greater efficiency.

Iceland's $15 million Orca plant sucks CO2 out of the air & pumps it deep underground to be mineralized for long-term storage. It's world's largest CCS plant & captures 4,000 tons or 0.0000127% of global CO2 a yr. At global scale that cost = $118 trillion so Musk isn't serious

Completely irrelevant. Musk is not paying to build and operate CCS plants, but for the IDEA. He’s rewarding the person or team that can demonstrate their idea/tech works well and best, and is scalable. 100M$ is more than enough to fund that and buy yourself a nice sailboat.
