New on the

A new discovery is in the most photogenic galaxy to date. He then points out in his summary slide how this field has really blossomed.

Hessels points out the diversity of galaxies that FRBs are in. There are suggestions that the repeating and non-repeating ones are in different galaxies. Maybe two types (like for supernovas and gamma ray bursts)

Here's the telescopic team effort that led to the discovery that the repeating FRB is in a wimpy galaxy. They could then look for signals at different wavelengths, like X-rays. Nothing detected with

Hessels asks what are these Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) good for? Quite a lot. He then points out that from 2007 to 2013 it wasn't known if these were real astrophysical objects. Then a bunch more were discovered.

He's starting with background about these mysterious and energetic flashes of radio signal. Many models for these objects - there's even a living catalog being kept.

@adrianprw is describing the discovery of a young star cluster using the superb@ESAGaia data. This cluster possibly formed from material streamed out of two nearby galaxies. Galactic space invaders.#AAS235pic.twitter.com/2aeIDb06kM

@AlyssaAGoodman asks why wasn't this structure seen earlier. Thats because they didn't have the 3D information.#aas235pic.twitter.com/E53nGZPQSG

Relativity isn't broken by the way, it's an illusion. The motion of a knot in the jet over 5 years is shown here. It also fades a lot over this time. The other source is glowing matter around the black hole.

It's the first single detector event seen, but that means the sky localization is relatively poor. No light seen, but not a surprise given position not being well know.
