I don’t think it’s an awful way to look at history. History is there to look at and learn from, not to dwell on. That’s how I see it. I don’t let it keep me from living my life because what’s happening in the present moment is more important, to me at least.

Nobody learned from that history. That's the problem here. He has never gotten his due. Nobody has. Sorry but that is quite a self-centered way to see life - if it doesn't concern you, it's not of importance? At least that's what that sounds like.

Not self centered it’s just that, I think people have different views on these things. We have people who do justice to write the wrongs of the past. And we have people who look to the present and move forward. Not to forget, but to fight the coming battles.

You both disagree or see differently because you both focus on different things. Imagine the exhaustion of a person, who thinks of every wrong. Of wanting change and justice for wrongs of the past, wrongs of the current, and wrongs of the past he future. That’s a lot for anyone.

You can’t expect a person to raise a sword for a belief they don’t feel. No matter how strongly you feel about any one given thing. We can have compassion for those who see as us, and for those who don’t. Who decides what we all should fight for? I’m rambling now, and very sleepy

I agree with most of what you said. But I see a problem in Ellen standing for something, having worked and fought for something, and then being friends with someone who stands for the exact opposite.

I mean, I can’t speak for Ellen. But perhaps, it’s just the realization that, sometimes we move on. Yeah she went through some hard times and THATS an understatement. But she has a wife, a family. Sometimes you cherish your present more than the pain of your past.

That’s what the positive beliefs in me would like to believe. The pessimist would say “she keeps that friendship for money/power” who can say? Ya know?

And I also will say, that I don’t know much about this particular topic because I feel as though im bombarded by negative news daily on my feeds. And the sheer amount of it all, just drives me off the wall. So I like to distance myself most of the time. Which we all need!

I think the best thing to do with history is look back at it and learn from it, so that you can anticipate what will happen in the now. But I'm not going to let it drag me down or keep me from progressing in a positive way. And I think that's what Ellen probably does too.

So "Let's just be friends with the war-criminal because he war-criminal'd over ten years ago now"? I just can't agree with that.
