I’m sure that there are people within the movement who live with mental illness, but I’m leery to ascribe the killer’s actions to mental illness for a number of reasons
Isn't mental illness as varied as those who suffer it? Incel stuff looks like collective delusion likely to destabilise people emotionally. It's a fallacy surely to say the actions of one mentally ill person stigmatizes others, therefore that person can't be called mentally ill?

I think there’s a difference between being taken in by dangerously ideology that slots into an existing framework of misogyny and white supremacy, and mental illness. I think they’re different categories...
-
And I think they're not separable in practice, because ideology can destabilize your mental health, and mental health problems can lead some to be drawn to problematic ideologies.

Why are you so eager to forgive an act of terrorism? It was politically motivated.
-
Please don't attempt to gaslight me. I'm not 'willing to forgive' anything. Terrorists are recruited by various means, but some people are more vulnerable to the lies of the recruiters. Recognizing that mental instability might contribute to that can support prevention measures.
