One more. On this chart the differences in importance of domestic demand are very well visible. In Helsinki the share of domestic bednights varies between 37% (June) and 56% (November).

Domestic bednights in the Nordic capitals. Stockholm really stands out; about 60% of all bednights in Stockholm are domestic. Tourism in Tallinn and Reykjavik, instead, relies on foreign demand.

New week, new charts. This was the situation last year in the Nordics from the viewpoint of foreign bednights.

Another very interesting chart - or two. These charts show the importance of domestic tourism in Helsinki. Usually I don't like to use the leisure/work division due to reliability problems. So this is a rare exception. :-)

Share of Russians of all foreign bednights varied from 5% in September to 20% in January 2019.

This one is interesting. Monthly seasonality of top 7 countries. The high season begins in May and lasts until September. And then there is Russia. Without Russians the seasonality would be much more severe.

December 2019 for you all. Foreign bednights in Helsinki decreased mainly because of the fall in Swedish (-14,4%), British (-23,0%) and American (-9,5%) bednights. Remarkable increase in Chinese (18,8%) and Japanese (15,4%) bednights.

The share of Helsinki of all registered bednights in Finland has remained in 30-34% throughout the decade. Helsinki and Lapland together comprise currently 57% of all bednights; 7%-points up from 2010 and this is mainly due to increased demand in Lapland.

Tourism demand in Helsinki reached another new level in 2019: 4,5 million bednights! All bednights +7,7%. The remarkable increase is partly due to increase in domestic demand (11,7%). Foreign bednights +4,4%.

The share is of all foreign bednights, of course.

The share of Chinese bednights in Helsinki is currently about 5% - 8,5% in last February though. In Rovaniemi last February almost 20%. This is at the core when we think of economic sustainability in tourism. Overdependence should always be avoided!

Occupancy rates in Helsinki last year. I try attaching the chart now instead of link. Better ?

Room capacities in Helsinki and other capitals and some regions as well. Too bad, statistics are not fully comparable. However, the chart roughly shows the situation at the moment.

The number of passengers at Helsinki airport increased by 5% last year and totalled almost 22 million. The change comparing to 2018 was about one million passengers. The growth slowed down a little; the number of domestic passengers decreased.

The number of bednights in Helsinki in 2019 by the end of November almost equalled the total number of 2018. Zero growth in December and the growth rate for the whole year would be 8%. @kaupunktieto

Thanks to Finnish tourists, I assume, hotels in Tallinn were somewhat busy also during the festive period. Situation in Helsinki and other Nordic capitals were a bit different.

New aviation statistics every months, but what to tell instead of mere yearly "growth"? Well, here are changes comparing to 2017. :-)

Starting now I will report also occupancy rates but will not report purpose of the trip. I don't consider this information reliable enough. Of course I have the information if needed.
