This is one of the very first remote camera detection of El Jefe in the rugged Santa Rita Mountains south of Tucson, Ariz. It is believed to be the only photo of a wild jaguar in the snow. Northern jaguar populations are unique & understudied. 📸USFWS

Before releasing video we had worked with students at Valencia Middle School in Tucson to vote on a name for the big cat just 25 miles from their school. They overwhelmingly voted for “El Jefe” (the boss in Spanish). I loved working with these kids.
