Happy World Wetlands Day! 💦 Hooray for the small but mighty sphagnum moss – the building block of peatlands. Did you know it can hold as much as 30 times its own weight in water?

Happy World Wetlands Day! 💦 Wet, healthy support unique birds, plants, fungi and insects. They give us carbon storage, clean drinking water and mitigate flooding and wildfires. What's not to like?! 😍

Did you know 34 species of sphagnum mosses can be found growing in Scotland, each with a slightly different role? Key peat forming mosses in Scotland are thought to be: the lime-green Sphagnum cuspidatum, the flame red S. capillifolium and the pale yellowish-green S. papillosum.
