    This is really shocking. Seven years after the EU ban on pesticides, there is still large-scale contamination, with "no clear declining trend". It suggests these poisons are extremely persistent. A global ban is urgently needed.

    During 2019, officials prevented the smuggling of more than 41,000 wild birds from Sumatra to Java. Poachers use glue to trap the birds in the wild. Many of these birds die while in the hands of poachers and on their way to the markets.
