I know a lot about the NYT but didn’t know much about Arthur Sulzberger Jr.—until today, when he spoke at UT-Austin. He’s passionate, proud, funny & candid. He even shared his real feelings about ‘The Post,’ the film about the Washington Post’s publishing of the Pentagon Papers.

For as little as $13, you can sponsor a year-long digital news subscription for a high school or college student. I'm so excited about this program that I just sponsored digital news subscriptions for 8 students and you can too!

Simeon Booker, pioneering journalist for Jet and Ebony, is dead at age 99. Booker's coverage of the 1955 lynching of 14-year-old Emmett Till during the boy's visit to Money, Mississippi, raised the nation's consciousness about lynchings & civil rights.

Although watchdog reporting relies on anonymous sources, the public is in the dark about how journalists use them. That’s why this backgrounder on using anonymous sources should be required reading for everyone.

The last day of our “News Literacy in a Digital Age” class began with the presentations of Groups 1 & 4 on developing a news literate Generation Z and ended with a class photo and my quote that I hope sticks: “Be alert to and take advantage of news literacy teachable moments.”
