The demands for an Irish Language Act are not coming from Sinn Féin, Paula, they are coming from the speakers of the language.

I think what she's referring to is Sinn Féin's politicisation (inadvertently or otherwrise) of the language & external perceptions of that.

The Irish language was a political issue long before Sinn Féin existed. The Statutes of Kilkenny 1366 come to mind.

I agree with all of this. I'd love to learn irish (Because of my ASD I'd find it too difficult to learn a 2nd lang), and an act is a gd idea
