RMS was one of those that got the "writes code so total lack of humanity OK" passes. We still seem to suffer from this broken parody of meritocracy. No accomplishment gives you a pass on basic humanity and respect for others, certainly not criminal behavior.

does he? i mean, he wrote code in the past, but nowadays he's just a minor emacs contributor, most of his reputation comes from the theorisation of what free software is, not from what he coded. Even with this aura, i've still always seen him as a senile clown
