Many thanks ! Currently working on a joint Alpinobombus revision & a global Melanobombus revision (lapidarius relatives – including evolution and biogeography) especially the keriensis-complex, here from NE Tibet:

  2. Lots of opportunities for research here - mating is relatively rarely seen - and that seems to be the point - are pairs of bees moving to where they may be less likely to be interrupted by competing males?

Another from the archives, a species I feel like I haven’t seen in person in a while: northern amber bumble bee (Bombus borealis). From my travels I have found them to be patchily distributed but locally common, prevalent throughout the AB prairies and spotty in southern ON.

I didn’t report this as my photos were so poor but on 3/12/19 I witnessed a failed attempt at mating between B.terrestris at Paignton in south Devon. The pictures show the queen and the pair (together for one minute max). At least this shows there were sexuals on this date.

And maybe while male bumblebee genitalia are so complex - better grappling irons get selected for?

These are very pale - might they come from a commercially reared colony or the progeny thereof???

I’ve lost followers since the rusty patch bumble bee incident. We’re scientists, and some times our data can be wrong. That doesn’t make us not a scientist

THE RUSTY PATCHED BUMBLE BE FOUND IN KANSAS WAS FABRICATED DOES NOT EXIST. I’m sorry for the misinformation, the info and pics were from Wisconsin. I’m so sorry to those excited about this

This betrays either ignorance (surely not?) or misogynist contempt for the law on Equal Pay. How was he allowed to present the Today programme for so long, for so much? He doesn't suggest the overpaid chaps take a pay cut to save the BBC. He also badly misrepresents
