👨‍⚕️ “I just published some research in a journal that patients can’t read, not written a lay summary, and have no plans to disseminate the findings outside my peer group”. Also 👨‍⚕️ : “Why do patients keep visiting alternative therapists and believing crap on the internet?” 🤦‍♂️

Those alternative therapists sound very authoritative when their blog has hyperlinks to random Pubmed abstracts cited completely out of context.

Well,if you are a woman, there is #genderbias , misdiagnosis most likely termed 'hysteria' or anxiety, when in fact life threatening illness, delayed diagnosis . No caring in healthcare. If you r suffering, abandoned by medicine, you have no other option. #patientstories

Diagnostic gender bias was especially obvious at thrombosis treatment team where women gaining anticoagulation had massively swollen limb showing acute symptomatic DVT. Whereas blokes mobile, minimally symptomatic, minimal swelling; 1 even cycling to anticoagulation appointments.

So true; I see this from both sides as a patient and provider. Providers can’t just sit in our echo chambers and judge pts for seeking relief even if not evidence based. Yet pts need to be savvy in navigating the (sometimes) problematic claims from alternative therapy providers.

Being a patient and your own advocate is downright exhausting at times. I’m not perfect, I go through waves of proactivity and then exhaustive suffering. I still don’t know what an alternative therapist is, but I can sympathize with patients who want to desperately feel better.

To democratize findings from clinical research new approaches are needed. We are trying for one US group:https://latinodiabetes.net

What’s an alternative therapist? Asking out of genuine curiosity, not sarcasm.

Complementary and Alternative "Medicine" practitioners, I think is what he means. Naturopaths, etc.
