After two and half centuries of our nation's history, it's come to this: The President's lawyers argue on the Senate floor that he can withhold aid, coerce an ally, and try to cheat in an election, And there's nothing we can do about it. Our Founders would be aghast.

Donald Trump must be convicted and removed from office. Because he will always choose his own personal interest over our national interest. Because in America, right matters. Truth matters. If not, no Constitution can protect us. If not, we are lost.

New from : our annual (maybe final) status report. The JCPOA is hanging by a thread: US has abrogated it, Iran has violated it, & Europe has put it on notice. A US-Iran tactical detente needed for breaking escalatory cycle. [Thread]

Since Trump left the deal and reimposed sanctions, Iran has: -Enriched more uranium and to higher levels -Deployed advanced centrifuges -Restarted enrichment at Fordow -Attacked Saudi oil facilities -Seized and sabotaged tankers -Attacked US forces directly and indirectly

I raise all of this as a reminder: The Iranians are good at this. Do not underestimate them. I think Trump did just that when he told his advisers he could scrag Soleimani and there wouldn't be a response. There was. Next time, we could end up in a place we don't want to be. /6x

The set back 's nuclear program significantly. Just getting its infrastructure back to pre-JCPOA levels would be a massive undertaking, making a potential "breakout", at the very best, at least a year away, tells .

Returning to the fulfilment of JCPOA terms is in every party’s interests, not only for the sake of nuclear non-proliferation but also in the effort to avoid a war. 9/

The full implications are not yet clear. Announcing an end to adherence with the limits is not the same as restarting prohibited activities. 1/

Yes, this is a piece of breakout from declared facilities, but numbers matter: Which 'fuges and what level of enrichment for starting and end product. It's an open breakout, not a covert one. I have no idea what this round of suspension was to include before the events of 1/3.

Let's get the facts about the JCPOA announcement right. There are too many inaccurate headlines and tweets about this--largely because some Iranian media outlets had dramatic headlines. Iran isn't ending ALL JCPOA commitments. It WILL continue to give IAEA access as before.

    1. BREAKING: Iran just announced the "fifth and final" reduction of its commitments under the JCPOA. Iran will cease to recognize any "operational restrictions" on its civilian nuclear program, such as enrichment caps. HOWEVER, Iran will continue to allow IAEA inspections.

Two very different interpretations out there right now about Iran’s nuclear announcement. One suggests they’ve left the deal entirely, but the statement itself seems to mention Iran will no longer observe limits on centrifuge numbers - that is NOT abandoning the entire deal.
