What a bizarre thread ⬇️ When I talked to his Barrington co-author Gupta re sheltering the vulnerable ahead of the 2nd wave she freely admitted she had no idea if it would work and had no back-up plan other than counting the corpses... https://twitter.com/MartinKulldorff/status/1418686247812452354 …pic.twitter.com/dO2aSvw8z9

Even if they'd come up with something like paying any willing care home workers £3,000 per week to live in during waves, at least it would have been a reality based option! And/or East Asian style hotel isolation offer. But that wouldn't fit the right-libertarian bill...

I just don't understand the indignation here - the meeting clearly happened and was influential on decision making in some ways - but there was no systematic attempt to shield the vulnerable so it clearly wasn't GBD policy enacted.

I actually think Heneghan's advice, which didn't involve focused protection but rather wait until it's clearly a problem rather than believe models, was much more influential. Even then, the buck stops with the politicians.

To be fair no one knew what would work and it would be hard to argue that the care homes solution adopted was a success or that there has been any serious attempt to discuss how to improve thingshttps://leftiehistorian.wordpress.com/2020/04/14/coronavirus-and-the-tricks-of-the-care-home-sector-where-a-bed-can-have-35000-of-debt/ …

there has been very open discussion and analysis of the care home situation and very open discussion of potential future approaches. All in plain sight (not least from NAO, Parliamentary Committees, Academic Journals, Professional Associations etc)

Man, if only this world had some sort of world wide web that featured sites you could visit where individuals or groups could share their views, plans, and information on certain subjects. Wouldn’t it be wild?

Zero Covid is a cult of the innumerate, the myopic, the ignorant, and the authoritarian. The GBD authors sought balance, reasonableness, and a plan that survived the long run.
