How big are they? Are they usually at the upper surface waters? What other organisms are they associated with? Love to learn more! I think they're adorable! Cc:

They’re about 6mm as adults, and yes most commonly found in the surface waters (>300m). They are most often found slightly offshore near other gelatinous zooplankton like
#salps

Woah these look so cool! What type of microfauna are they? I didnt know they made gothic snitches in the Antarctica either!

They’re pteropods, open ocean snails, commonly known as sea butterflies. The ocean has amazing creatures!

Different species of pteropods do! The Limacina species tend to be a more polar species though. They are found in the
#arctic as well with the#polarbears :-)

It took me too long to realise these weren't fruit flies!

Their swimming motion has been studied by engineers and is found to actually be the same as fruit flies so you weren’t far off!
