When it comes to President Trump’s nominees, Democrats have made it very clear: we’re not going to allow nominees to be jammed through without proper scrutiny and debate. No cutting corners. No playing fast and loose with the facts. No cutting off debate.

Yet President Trump – who paid a whole lot of lip service to veterans during his campaign—either didn’t care, or didn’t bother to take the time to ensure he was sending over a fully-vetted nominee. It’s sloppy, it’s disrespectful to our veterans, and it’s just wrong.

I know the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee is ready to dig into Mr. Jackson’s nomination, and I am hopeful that we can get the facts we need, debate them as appropriate, and do our jobs free from any political attempts to jam this nominee through.

Someone has to do the work on behalf of the families we represent—and if the past year and a half is any indication – it’s certainly not going to be President Trump or his Administration.
