This is exactly why I had to drop out of college. I could not handle the debt. I had 2 children to raise and couldn't afford our rent while both of us were still working. Right out of high school I couldn't go to college due to not having any family to help pay for it.

It seems to me that the solution is not for the US to finance everyone’s college degree that can’t afford it; but rather, incentivize colleges to make their tuition cheaper. Also, the social expectation that everyone needs a degree needs to change as well.
